If you've seen "Tirzepatide Flex" on our website or your prescription, you may be wondering what it is and how it differs from other tirzepatide you may have heard about. Here's a plain-language explanation.
What is Tirzepatide Flex?
Tirzepatide Flex is the name we use at Nuvo for our compounded tirzepatide at a concentration of 15 mg/mL, in a 4 mL vial (60 mg in total). It's the tirzepatide I prescribe for Nuvo patients today, including patients who are just starting treatment.
"Flex" isn't a separate drug or a brand name. It's the same active ingredient as other compounded tirzepatide, prepared at a higher concentration.
How does Flex compare with 10 mg/mL tirzepatide?
Compounded tirzepatide is also made at 10 mg/mL. Flex, at 15 mg/mL, holds 50% more medication in each mL. That's the main reason I prescribe it: for many patients, it's the more cost-effective choice.
Because Flex is more concentrated, the same dose is a smaller amount in your syringe. If you've used a 10 mg/mL vial before, from Nuvo or anywhere else, the number of units you draw up will be different. Always follow the dosing instructions for the specific vial you have, and call or text me if you're ever unsure.
How long does a vial last?
At starting doses, a Flex vial lasts about 12 weeks. At higher doses, a vial is used faster. Most people start at a low dose and increase gradually, with at least four weeks at each step, which helps your body adjust and can reduce stomach side effects like nausea. Dose changes are decided together at your check-ins, and you should never change your dose on your own.
What does Tirzepatide Flex cost?
Tirzepatide Flex is $500 per fill, or two payments of $250. Each fill includes:
There's no monthly membership and no contract.
