If you're thinking about starting semaglutide or tirzepatide in 2027, the weeks before the new year are a great time to plan. Many people set health goals in January, but the ones who feel most prepared usually start a little earlier. They learn how treatment works, sort out the budget and timing, and walk into the new year with a clear plan instead of a rushed decision.

I'm Amanda Walrath, APRN, FNP-BC, a Florida-licensed, board-certified family nurse practitioner with 17 years of clinical experience and the founder of Nuvo Wellness and Health. I know this journey personally. After having my son, I struggled with my weight. I was going to the gym and dieting, and the scale wouldn't change. I finally tried semaglutide through an online telehealth company, and when it worked for me, I wanted to tell everyone. That experience is a big part of why I started Nuvo, and I've taken the same medication I offer. Every body is different, and individual results vary.

This guide walks you through how to plan a 2027 start with clinician-guided GLP-1 care by telehealth, from anywhere in Florida.

Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not FDA-approved, and they are not the same as, equivalent to, or generic versions of any brand-name medication. Whether treatment is appropriate for you is decided by a clinical evaluation. Individual results vary.

Why plan your 2027 semaglutide or tirzepatide start now

A new year can be a natural reset point, but weight loss with GLP-1 medication isn't a 30-day resolution. It's a gradual process that works best alongside steady habits and regular check-ins with your provider. Planning ahead helps you:

Around the holidays, the question I hear most is how to take on a New Year challenge and get back on track with health goals. I love that energy. My biggest piece of advice: figure out your own flow. Everyone moves at their own pace day to day, so try not to compare your progress to anyone else's. Comparing will only drive you crazy.

–Start on a date that fits your life, not the busiest week of your holidays.
–Know what to expect in the first weeks, including common side effects like nausea or reduced appetite.
–Set realistic goals with your provider instead of chasing a number by a deadline.
–Feel confident about cost before you commit.

Everyone's body responds differently. Some people notice appetite changes early and others take longer, so individual results vary. A good plan focuses on health and habits you can keep, not a promise of a specific result by a specific date.

How to time your start in January 2027

If you'd like to begin in early January, work backward. Here's how the process works at Nuvo:

1.Book your complimentary consultation. Our hours are Monday through Friday 9 to 5 and Saturday 10 to 2.
2.Have your telehealth clinical evaluation, where we review your health history, medications and goals.
3.If treatment is appropriate, your prescription goes to the pharmacy. Allow 5 to 7 days for the pharmacy to prepare and ship it.
4.Your medication ships overnight cold via FedEx to your door. Keep it refrigerated when it arrives.

Around Christmas and New Year's, shipping carriers and pharmacies may have holiday closures, so build in a few extra days. Booking your consultation in early to mid-December gives you the most breathing room for a January start.

It's also fine to wait until after the holidays to begin. Some people prefer not to start a new medication during a season full of parties, travel and big meals. If you do start in December, our post on holiday eating and travel on GLP-1 medication has practical tips.

Budgeting for semaglutide or tirzepatide in 2027

Nuvo is a cash-pay practice with no monthly membership. You pay per vial, and medication, supplies, shipping and ongoing follow-up are included.

Medication
Price per vial
About how long it lasts
Compounded semaglutide 2.5 mg/mL, 4 mL (10 mg) vial
$400
About 12 weeks, depending on dose
Compounded tirzepatide 15 mg/mL, 4 mL (60 mg) vial
$500
About 12 weeks, depending on dose

If you have a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA), the new year is a good time to check your balance. Many plans run on a calendar year, so new contributions often start in January. Nuvo accepts HSA and FSA cards if you medically qualify for treatment after your clinical evaluation. Ask your plan administrator what documentation they need before you pay. Our post on using an HSA or FSA for GLP-1 weight loss medication explains more.

New Year habits that support GLP-1 treatment

Medication works best as one part of a bigger plan. You don't need a complete life overhaul on January 1. Small, steady habits tend to last longer:

–Prioritize protein at each meal to help protect muscle while you lose weight. I'll admit I love protein shakes and beef jerky, which are easy to keep on hand for busy days.
–Drink water throughout the day. Staying hydrated can also help with constipation and nausea.
–Eat slowly and stop when you feel comfortably full. GLP-1 medications can make you feel full sooner.
–Add strength training two or more days a week, even simple bodyweight moves at home.
–Protect your sleep, since short sleep can make appetite and cravings harder to manage.
–Plan your weekly injection day and keep your medication refrigerated.

Nuvo's GLP-1 Patient Guide covers storage, injections and when to call us. If you ever miss a dose, call or text us for guidance rather than guessing.

Is semaglutide or tirzepatide safe for you? Screening comes first

Before anyone starts a GLP-1 medication, a clinical evaluation checks whether it's appropriate. Be sure to tell your provider about:

–A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2). GLP-1 medications are not used in these situations.
–Pregnancy, breastfeeding or plans to become pregnant in 2027.
–A history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease or kidney problems.
–Diabetes medications such as insulin or a sulfonylurea, which can raise the risk of low blood sugar.
–Birth control pills, since tirzepatide may make them less effective for a time after starting or increasing a dose.

The most common side effects are digestive, like nausea, constipation or reduced appetite. If you develop severe or persistent stomach pain, repeated vomiting, signs of an allergic reaction or dehydration, contact your provider right away or seek urgent care.

I'll be honest: I had nausea when I first started. What helped me was splitting my weekly dose over two different days, and after that I didn't have a problem again. That approach isn't right for everyone, so please don't change your dose or schedule on your own. Call or text us, and we'll talk through what's safe for you.

Not sure which medication fits you? Our tirzepatide vs. semaglutide post compares them, and your provider will help you decide during your evaluation.
